Set of proposals formulated at an estimated cost of Rs.3,171 crore.The Highways' proposals account for a chunk of the development works to be carried out by various agencies in the fringe areas in the next three years.
The CMDA will consolidate the proposals from all agencies and submit them to the government shortly.
The focus of the proposals will be on improving and enhancing infrastructure such as roads, bridges and drainage. The areas under local bodies that are likely to be part of the expanded Chennai Corporation stand to benefit from the implementation.
Road projects in fringe areas of the city belonging to Kancheepuram district are estimated to cost Rs.2,251 crore. The proposals relating to the roads in Tiruvallur are expected to cost of Rs.920 crore.
Some of the important roads included in the proposal for widening are Mount Poonamallee Road, Kodambakkam-Sriperumbudur Road, Vanagaram-Ambattur-Puzhal Road, Thandalam-Perumbakkam-Arugilpadi Road, GNT Road, Tiruvottiyur-Ponneri-Panchetti Road, Medavakkam-Mambakkam-Chembakkam Road, Sadras-Tiruthani Road, Kancheepuram Bypass, Vandalur- Mambakkam- Kelambakkam Road, GST Road-Nalambakkam- Kattur Road, Korattur- Periyapalayam Road and Thirukazhukunram-Kalpakkam Road.
Other agencies such as the Chennai Metrowater, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, Public Works Department and Directorate of Town Panchayat will also send their proposals on the infrastructure projects in fringe areas to be taken up in the next three years.
