AHMEDABAD: The Sardar Patel (SP) Ring Road will finally get the attention it deserves. The 200-feet arterial road is being jointly developed by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation ( AMC) and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda).
For long due to paucity of funds, Auda had avoided construction of service roads and drawing up plans to facilitate interior roads leading to the ring road. There are plans that show that Auda will develop service roads on both sides of the ring road, while the main carriage way will be made access control.
The service roads are supposed to link societies and offices on both sides of the ring road, while the central carriage way will be the high speed corridor. "The SP Ring Road will be preferred by those who want to reach destinations early within the city. Since one has to pay toll on a large part of the ring road, there will be no traffic hauls. With new developments coming up on both sides of the ring road, we realised that access roads should be provided for new settlement areas," says a senior Auda official.
