Representations by resident welfare associations of T Nagar to the Corporation Commissioner and the Mayor pointing out the failure of authorities in executing the HC order for more than a year has still not yielded result. When Express visited the spot on Tuesday, vehicles could be seen parked on the street. Members of association were demanding immediate action on the HC order. V Shyam Anand, a resident, said due to illegal parking in the area "we are not able to take out our vehicle". The encroachment by commercial establishments have further aggravated the situation, he added. However, on Tuesday evening, the authorities, including Assistant Commissioner (traffic), Mambalam, P Manoharan, held a meeting with the residents and said: "It is a genuine issue and people are facing problems. Necessary action will be taken within two to three days."
According to the direction issued by Justice A Ramamurthy, the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) was asked to enforce no parking in the street to allow free movement of traffic since there is no authorised parking in the area. It further directed the Corporation Commissioner to clear the encroachments in Pinjala Subramaniam Street and restore the width of 39 ft.
